ST7L is a paralog of the tumor suppressor ST7 (600833) (Katoh, 2002).

▼ Cloning and Expression

By genomic sequence analysis and RT-PCR of fetal brain, lung, liver, and kidney RNA, Katoh (2002) cloned full-length human ST7L, which he called ST7R, and 3 splice variants. The deduced full-length protein contains 575 amino acids and shares 72.1% identity with ST7. It contains a leucine zipper domain and 3 tyrosine phosphorylation sites. Two splice variants encode isoforms of 558 and 544 amino acids that have internal deletions relative to the full-length protein. The other variant encodes a 555-amino acid protein that differs from the other 3 isoforms at its C terminus.

By Northern blot analysis with a probe common to the 3 ST7L variants that encode isoform with the same C terminus, Kirikoshi and Katoh (2002) detected a 4.2-kb transcript in various human tissues and 2.2- to 2.4-kb transcripts in testis. A probe corresponding to the variant that encodes the isoform with a unique C terminus detected a 2.0-kb transcript in testis. ST7L transcripts were undetectable by Northern blot analysis in 8 human cancer cell lines, but they were detected by PCR in gastric cancer cell lines and in primary gastric cancer specimens.

By genomic sequence analysis, Katoh (2002) mapped the ST7L gene to chromosome 1p13.
