▼ Description

ENO1B is an isoform of the glycolytic enzyme enolase (2-phospho-D-glycerate hydrolase; EC 4.2.1.11). It is a member of the alpha family of enolases which show widespread tissue distribution and expression in the early stages of embryonic development.

▼ Cloning and Expression

Verma and Kurl (1993) cloned ENO1B from a human lung fibroblast cDNA library, using a rat homolog as probe. The deduced 458-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 49.5 kD. Northern blot analysis revealed an approximately 1.7-kb transcript in lung.

▼ Gene Function

Verma and Kurl (1993) found increased expression of ENO1B mRNA in human lung fibroblasts treated with dexamethasone. The increase in mRNA was dose-dependent and required de novo RNA synthesis.
